Hydrostatic Testing Services
Hydrostatic pressure testing as a very useful tool to determine the conditions of a pressure rated part and provide “proof of design”. All ASME code pressure vessels must be hydrotested, and many pressure devices are required to be hydrostatically pressure tested periodically.
Fluitron is capable of pressure testing pipe, tubes, coils, pressure vessels, reactors, autoclaves, columns, or any device or fitting rated for pressure. We can hydrotest to 150,000 psig with distilled water, water soluble oil, or other fluids. Using calibrated pressure gauges and ASME code procedures, we can hydrotest at our facility and depending on the circumstances, at a remote location or customer facility.
For special designed fittings or pressure vessels, we can custom design a closure or adapter for hydrotesting. With our engineering expertise and years of custom pressure vessel design experience, we can help redesign pressure equipment to reduce cost or improve the design or reliability.
Helium Leak Test
Fluitron can gas test pressure vessels and fixtures or fittings to pressure as high as 60,000 psig depending on the item. A helium leak rate test can be performed to evaluate seals and closures. Air as well as inert gases including helium are usually used for these tests. For specialty items, Fluitron can also perform mass spectrometer leak testing on vessels or fittings.
Burst Testing to Discover Design Flaws
In addition to hydrotesting, we can take a pressure vessel, pressure device, or fitting to failure. This can determine the mode of failure and provide practical feedback as to weak points in a design.
Fluitron has a limited number of small pressure vessels rated to 100,000 psig. These vessels can be used to apply external pressure to a part or object. This would allow someone to qualify a deep-sea part or a part exposed to external pressure. It can establish the optimum operating pressure for an isostatic press or high pressure processing of food, failure pressure of an instrument, etc.
Custom Fixture Adapters and Seals
Having trouble finding fittings and adaptors to test your custom parts? We can manufacture custom fixtures/adaptors to your drawings/specifications, or we can design them ourselves. For testing purposes, we stock a variety of special/exotic materials including but not limited to:
- Beryllium Copper
- 17-4 PH
- CU 10100
- 300 series Stainless Steel
- Teflon (Virgin and Glass Filled)
- KEL-F (PCTFE)
Material Certs can be made available upon request.
Standard materials include:
We can also design/manufacture custom seals/gaskets for your testing needs/requirements.
